No matter the encounter, my surroundings often inspire me deeply and I spend time reflecting. I recently saw a most touching installation by the Swiss Tibetan artist Sonam Dolma Brauen, “My Father’s Death”, currently on display at the Nelson Atkins Museum in Kansas City/Missouri/USA. Individual fates are altered by circumstances, yet we decide how to shape the time we are given. In reflection, I light candles in memory on special occasions in order to commemorate, remember and let light shine into eternity. Wishing you a peaceful season filled with love.

I attach a poem and an encaustic painting of mine, both created a few years ago, but may be a good fit as inspiration for reflection, of course nowhere near the power of emotion as above work.

What Matters

Bright sunshine turns raindrops into shiny crystals
Sparkling through piles of hopscotch clutter
Traipsing ordinary dullness and shuffling rhythmic routine
Hearing a calming echo of distant voices blaming senses of loss
Empowering an urge to shove on life
Time running through a sand clock
We do not live infinitely

A tryptich, encaustic on board, some of my very first pieces exhibited. Meditation through repetition.
